Baking Supplies in Pune: Where Home Bakers Buy Ingredients, Tools and Cake Boxes

Ask five Pune home bakers where they buy whipping cream and you'll get five answers and one strong opinion about which brand splits in the heat. Supplies are one of those things nobody writes down. You learn by asking around, wasting money on the wrong compound chocolate, and finding the good shop two years in.

So we put together a starting list by area. It isn't complete, and we're not paid by anyone on it. Call before you go, because stock and timings change.

If you bake in Wanowrie, Fatima Nagar, NIBM or Undri, the Kondhwa and Hadapsar suppliers below are the closest. Kothrud and Karve Nagar bakers are better off starting with the west Pune list.

South and east Pune: Kondhwa, Hadapsar, Market Yard side

Bakerskart, Kondhwa Budruk. A wholesaler of baking essentials on Katraj-Kondhwa Road. Their listing covers chocolate compound, cake mixes, sprinkles and disposable cake containers. Useful if you're in Kondhwa, NIBM, Undri or Katraj. (IndiaMART)

Magnumji Distributors, Hadapsar. On Pune-Solapur Road, listing silicone cake moulds, cake boxes and related items. Worth a stop if you're in Hadapsar, Magarpatta or Fatima Nagar. (IndiaMART)

West Pune: Kothrud and nearby

Bake Easy, Kothrud. A baking supply store near Dahanukar Colony that reviewers describe as good for small-scale home bakers. (listing)

Old city: Raviwar Peth and Sadashiv Peth

For packaging, the old peths are worth a morning. IndiaMART lists several cake box and cupcake box sellers in Raviwar Peth and Sadashiv Peth. (IndiaMART) Go with a list of exact sizes. "Cake box" means nothing until you say 8-inch, 10-inch, half kg or 1 kg, with or without a window.

Chains with Pune and PCMC outlets

Baker's Super Mart. A baking supplies chain headquartered in Hyderabad with outlets in Pune and Pune PCMC. Ingredients, tools and decorating items under one roof, which saves time when you need ten small things. (source)

Packaging suppliers

H S Packaging, Pune. Makes and supplies cake boxes, cake base boards, cake bags and butter paper, and has been around since 2007. Good for bulk box orders once you know your sizes. (IndiaMART)

Ordering online

If you can't get across town, online baking stores deliver tools, toppers, premixes and boxes across India. Prices are usually a little higher than wholesale, but you save the auto fare and the afternoon.

How to buy without overspending

Buy boxes in bulk, cream in small batches. Boxes don't go off. Whipping cream does, and Pune summers are not kind to it. Buy cream for the week, not the month.

Pick one chocolate and learn it. Switching between compound brands every month makes your results inconsistent. Find one that works for your recipes and stick with it until you have a reason to change.

Split bulk orders with other bakers. Wholesale prices often need a minimum quantity. Two or three home bakers in the same area can share a carton of boxes or a big pack of cocoa and all pay less.

Don't skimp on boards and boxes. A ₹15 saving on a flimsy box is gone the first time a cake slides on a delivery bike.
